2nd Annual Spring Refresh & Yankee Stadium Celebration

The Colorado Family Church held a special outdoor service and festival to commemorate three special events: the 40th Anniversary of the Yankee Stadium Rally, the 2nd Annual Spring Refresh, and Memorial Day. For the past two years, the church has been hosting an annual festival which brings together some kind of cleaning and development projects as well as great wholesome family fun. We rent an inflatable water slide and have a delicious BBQ and work together to develop a greater sense of community and family, as well as greater ownership of our building.

Because this year was the 40th anniversary of the Yankee Stadium Rally, we decided to combine the two celebrations. During the service, we chose special songs to commemorate the day and a special sermon was given by pastor Adonia Hentrich using excerpts of Rev. Moon’s speech from back in 1976. At that time, Rev. Moon spoke about America’s unique role in the world and how much God invested to build this great nation. At that time, Rev. Moon said that if God leaves America, then this great country will eventually fall to ruin. The words from that speech ring true as much today as they did back then.

Therefore, the focus of the sermon was on how we can bring God back into America. We can do that by bringing God back into our own lives and our own families. After the sermon, we all sang “God Bless America.” Because our church is located on the edge of a large park, we could utilize it to hold our entire service outside. That was really enjoyable for a lot of people, and it was the first time for our new pastors to hold an outdoor service. After the service, many people volunteered for different projects to beautify and improve the building. This year, the projects were cutting down bushes, digging a trench for an electrical conduit, cleaning the outside of the windows, carpet cleaning a Sunday School room, setting up some café-style outdoor seating, weeding, and planting flowers.

Many people also enjoyed playing basketball, Frisbee, and just sitting and enjoying one another’s company. It was a great celebration, and we look forward to celebrating also the 40th anniversary of Washington Monument later this summer.
