Gratitude for Children this Thanksgiving
This past Thanksgiving at the Colorado Family Church, families gathered together after service for a special treat. Some of the children had worked late into the night and all through the morning to prepare a delicious Thanksgiving feast for the whole community.
David Stein and David Heppell have taken under their wings a group of boys and girls in our community that are generally between the ages of 9 and 13. Last year, as part of a purity and faith course called Il Shim, the group decided that they wanted to cook Thanksgiving lunch for everyone.
It was a huge hit and they decided they wanted to do it again this year. That was one of the most inspiring parts, that on their own, they wanted to do it again. The children came to the church on Saturday night to begin preparing the food, taking breaks to play board games and night time hide and seek. They worked hard preparing sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, ham, turkey, stuffing, and more!
Many parents also helped by preparing some of the food at home and serving the food. It was very heart-warming to see the children, who’d worked so hard through the night, standing there with smiles, waiting to place food on your place before getting food for themselves.
It was really an opportunity to feel gratitude for children and all the things that we have in our lives that we often take for granted.
