Just Like Family

Despite the challenges everyone in the nation is facing right now, the families of the Colorado Family Church have found loving ways to connect and support each other through this difficult time. Several families in the community had become very ill (presumably Covid-19) and were suffering from very high fevers, headaches, breathing difficulties and complete exhaustion. It was disheartening for everyone, not being able to do much to help. However, one way people could make a difference was in providing meals for these families. Whether through an organized meal app, or simply being compelled organically. Family after family cooked nutritious and warming dishes, and then dropped them off on the porches of the affected members. The food is not only feeding their physical bodies, but their spirits as well.

Mark, who is now recovering, shared emphatically, “This is really why I joined the Unification movement 43 years ago, the level of love and caring. Just like family. The spirit and love I have felt from members today are identical to when I joined, but the meals are better! Spiritually I have not felt this valuable in 43 years.”

Catherine said, “We are so grateful for everyone’s prayers and concern. My whole family, including children and grandchildren, were affected. So it was very challenging and it is a long road to recovery. However, families that provided meals and encouragement has made it a little easier to bear.”

Another way that people are supporting each other is through donating to The Lifeboat. The Lifeboat is a program set up independently by Unificationists in the community, where people can donate to help those in need. The Lifeboat will directly pay for a month’s rent, or medical expenses, or whatever emergency arises, to alleviate an applicant’s financial stress.

Providing meals for families in need is common in this community, whether someone is in the hospital with sickness, or just had a baby, or lost a family member. But in the age of coronavirus, when there is so little people can do for one another, making meals and contributing to The Lifeboat are two big things members can do to express their love.
