Wonjeon in the Rockies
In this world of uncertainty, one thing is still certain – we will ascend to the spiritual world when our time comes. By the immense grace of True Parents, we celebrate our lives of attendance to True Parents with the Seonghwa Ceremony and we end our earthly journey with the Wonjeon Ceremony at our burial. Elders of the Colorado Family Church Shirley Chimes, Dr. D. Michael Hentrich, Jim Chimes, David Mahardy, and Catherine Ichinohe searched for many months and eventually were led to an extraordinary burial opportunity few can match in America.
In sight of the glorious Rocky Mountains, just outside of Denver, a cemetery has set aside a large section of their property for what is called ‘Natural Burial.’ It is not unique, but becoming increasingly popular as one of many burial options. Those who are interned there use no embalming, no crypts or vaults, and can be laid to rest very naturally in a beautiful hand-made wooden casket or in a cloth shroud.
Even the environment speaks to the naturalness of the burial. The grass in the area is intentionally left tall and wild rather than green and groomed like a golf-course. No standing markers are allowed; only flat markers level with the ground so as not to disturb the natural scenery. All-in-all, it offers a breathtaking scene for loved ones and a most peaceful interment for those who have ascended.
A granite bench with beautiful engraved words marks the area where True Parents’ family will be buried. And, just days ago, one precious sister from the local community became the first member to have their Wonjeon Ceremony and burial there.
Complementing the natural burial, a very personal and special mortuary offers natural preparation of the body of the deceased. Again, no embalming is allowed, but rather cleansing and the application of natural oils is provided. Everything is very personal and custom. Relatives are invited to participate in the preparation and dressing of the body with their own background music of choice and incenses to fill the room. The body is then kept on ice until burial. Cremation services are also available.
Upon being introduced to this wonderful opportunity and viewing the location, one senior member commented almost in tears, “I have been hoping and searching for something like this for years. I had almost given up looking. But by some miracle, here it is. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me.” Many other members and families have felt the same and purchased plots there.
The cost of these services is even slightly less than the traditional options available at nearby funeral homes and special pricing has been arranged.
