Colorado Family Church's Celebration of True Parents' Birthdays and Heavenly Parent's Day
January 26th was a special day for our faith as we payed homage to our founders and to our Heavenly Parent. We celebrated the 100th birthday of Rev. Moon, the 77th birthday of Mrs. Moon, and Heavenly Parent's Day. They were celebrated with an enormous festival at the Colorado Family Church on January 26, 2020. People from all over Colorado worshipped and celebrated together in Denver.
The celebration really began on the 25th with a traditional pledge service and offering table. Pastor Adonia gave a message on the meaning of celebrating these Holy Days and we shared together in a nice breakfast afterwards.
On the 26th, the sermon, “Starting the Year with Faith”, was moving. It was about the need to start our year recognizing that God is always with us, always working in our lives, in your life, regardless of what you may be doing. Sometimes, we may feel unworthy or ashamed because we aren’t living the way we think we should be or we don’t meet our own expectations. We need to remind ourselves, start our year off having faith that God is still working in my life.
Following service and lunch, the community came together to cheer on the Jeopardy contestants. As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen Jeopardy tested the knowledge of contestants about True Father's autobiography, As A Peace-Loving Global Citizen. Contestants were chosen randomly from a pool of volunteers. The winner was Shirley Chimes, who as it turns out, had just finished reading the autobiography for the 68th time. The competition was fun for all, with many people jumping in their seats struggling to contain themselves from blurting out the answers.
After Jeopardy, our group divided up into those who went downstairs to play the time-honored Korean Yute Game and also testimonies being shared upstairs. Yute is kind of like a group board game that uses sticks instead of dice. One of our new members was fascinated when she heard about Yute. She was amazed that we could replace dice with sticks. She became a Yute fan.
For the testimonies, many people shared honestly and bravely about experiences in their lives. Whether it was dealing with cancer, overcoming life of faith struggles, relationship with parents, children struggling to understand their faith, it was all very refreshing and a sense of togetherness was definitely in the air.
While this was all happening, there was an art contest happening in the background. Children and adults competed on who could represent “God’s Love” in the form of art. The submissions were all very beautiful.
The last major event of the day was to come together for the talent show. We had some amazing talent this year. There were classical music performances, songs, dances, group activities, and so much more. It felt like such a blessing to be a part of it.
Winners were announced with some taking home as much as $100 for winning some of the different contests and games.
Lastly, we enjoyed a delicious Korean dinner of Chapchei and Bulgogi. The meal was delicious and the fellowship more so. Many people stayed and talked for a long time. Many more pictures can be seen on our Facebook page.
